Serbia’s Novak Djokovic suffered a shocking defeat in the third round of the Rome Open at the hands of Chilean Alejandro Tabilo. Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, was knocked out in a swift 6-2, 6-3 defeat by the relatively unknown Tabilo, who is ranked 32nd in the world. This unexpected loss ended Djokovic’s bid for a record-extending 41st Masters 1000 title and came just two days after he was accidentally hit on the head by a bottle following a previous match.

The 36-year-old Serbian’s subdued performance on the court raised questions about whether he was still feeling the effects of the head injury. Despite trying to make light of the situation by wearing a cycling helmet during practice, Djokovic was unable to find his rhythm against his opponent. This early exit from the tournament is a setback for Djokovic, who was hoping to build momentum ahead of the upcoming Roland Garros tournament.

The Rome Open has already seen some surprising upsets, with top players like Italian Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz missing from the competition. Italian fans were disappointed to see local favorites like Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti eliminated early on, while clay-court legend Rafael Nadal was also knocked out in the second round. Tabilo’s victory over Djokovic was a standout moment in the tournament, as he dominated the match from start to finish.

The Chilean player impressed the crowd with his aggressive style of play, taking a commanding lead in the first set and maintaining his momentum throughout the match. Tabilo’s win over Djokovic is considered the biggest victory of his career so far, and it has put him in the spotlight as a rising star in the world of tennis. Despite Djokovic’s reputation as one of the top players in the sport, Tabilo’s performance showed that he was up to the task of facing off against the best in the world.

Overall, Djokovic’s unexpected defeat at the hands of Tabilo in the Rome Open has added an element of unpredictability to the tournament. With several top players already out of the competition, fans are eagerly watching to see who will emerge victorious in the remaining rounds. Tabilo’s impressive performance against Djokovic has solidified his place as a player to watch in future tournaments, while Djokovic will be looking to bounce back from this defeat and regain his form in the upcoming events.
