The Sultanate of Oman recently participated in an Arab Forum in Cairo, organized by the League of Arab States, focusing on strengthening anti-corruption efforts. The event brought together representatives from various anti-corruption agencies, audit institutions, international organizations, civil society, universities, and professional institutions. The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation was led by Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution.

The forum program included three main sessions. The first session discussed the impact of implementing national anti-corruption strategies and enhancing dialogue and cooperation between different relevant parties in Arab States. It aimed to address the challenges faced by States parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention and evaluate the impact of national strategies in preventing and combating corruption. The session also looked at international responses and comparative experiences from Arab and foreign States.

The second session focused on the use of technology in preventing and combating corruption. It highlighted the role of technology in reporting corruption, researching and investigating corruption crimes, and improving services provided to citizens through digitization. It also emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity of services and benefiting from them while enhancing State oversight.

In the third and final session of the Arab Forum, the discussions centered on strengthening the role of the private sector in combating corruption in Arab States. This involved reviewing the State’s role in engaging the private sector in anti-corruption efforts, addressing the challenges governments face in promoting and evaluating companies’ anti-corruption compliance programs. The session also explored good practices for providing effective incentives to support the private sector’s efforts and establishing a sustainable business environment.

Overall, the Arab Forum provided a platform for meaningful discussions on anti-corruption efforts, bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders to exchange views, share experiences, and address challenges. The participation of the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation, led by the Chairman of the State Audit Institution, reflected the country’s commitment to combating corruption and working collaboratively with other Arab States in this important endeavor.
