Jabal Al Akhdar, located in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, has seen an increase in tourist numbers during the first half of this year. According to statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of visitors reached 84,869, compared to 79,034 visitors during the same period in 2023, marking a 7.37 percent increase. The majority of visitors were Omanis, with significant numbers also coming from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. Additionally, tourists from other Arab and foreign nationalities contributed to the overall number of visitors to the region.

To further boost tourism in the area, the “Green Mountain Summer” events have been planned to take place from Thursday until September 14, 2024. These events will be hosted at the Dusit Al Jabal Al Akhdar Hotel and will feature a wide range of cultural, social, sports, entertainment, heritage, and popular activities. The goal is to stimulate local tourism and showcase the natural beauty and heritage of the Al Jabal Al Akhdar region. In addition, an exhibition for productive families and small and medium enterprises will be held to encourage participation and create temporary job opportunities.

The “Green Mountain Summer” events are expected to attract a larger number of tourists from both inside and outside Oman. These events coincide with the second edition of the “Rummana” event in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, which focuses on agricultural tourism initiatives. This edition aims to promote environmentally friendly agricultural tourism, provide unique experiences for tourists, and support local farmers in marketing their products. By diversifying tourism offers and products, the goal is to establish the Green Mountain as a leading tourist, cultural, and agricultural destination in the region.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is actively promoting investment in Jabal Al Akhdar to enhance tourism demand and benefit the local community. Projects such as tourist resorts, hotels, rest houses, and guest houses are being encouraged to contribute to the development of tourism in the region. The Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar is a popular tourist destination in Oman during the summer season, known for its moderate climate and a variety of hotel facilities. Visitors flock to the area to engage in activities like mountain climbing, hiking, and enjoying the pleasant weather.

Overall, the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar is experiencing growth in tourism, with initiatives like the “Green Mountain Summer” events and the “Rummana” event playing a significant role in attracting visitors and showcasing the region’s cultural, natural, and agricultural attractions. By promoting sustainable tourism practices and supporting local businesses, the aim is to further establish Jabal Al Akhdar as a premier tourist destination in Oman and the region. The combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor activities makes it an ideal location for tourists seeking a unique and memorable travel experience.
