The government of Bahrain has made significant improvements in the vehicle inspection process, with over 45% of car owners now opting for private centres. This shift has eliminated frustrations experienced at the Traffic Directorate, with long waiting times being a thing of the past. Private centres now offer competitive prices, accessibility, and efficiency, with 23 inspection lanes and 56 inspectors available to serve drivers. Decision No. (51) of 2024 officially allows licensed private centres to carry out inspections, with the Traffic Directorate retaining the right to inspect vehicles as needed to ensure roadworthiness.

In response to a parliamentary proposal to adjust inspection hours at the Traffic Directorate, the government has emphasized its commitment to involving the private sector in improving public services. Eleven centres have already met the required standards, with additional applications under review. This collaboration with the private sector allows for inspections to be conducted outside standard working hours, including on public holidays, providing added convenience for vehicle owners. The role of the Traffic Directorate has evolved to overseeing the quality of inspections conducted by private centres, with regular checks to ensure that necessary standards are maintained.

The government’s approach to enhancing public services through partnerships with the private sector has been well-received, with drivers benefiting from streamlined and efficient vehicle inspections. The introduction of private operators has not only reduced wait times and costs but has also improved overall service quality. By delegating the inspection process to licensed centres, the government has been able to focus on ensuring that the standards are upheld, while also providing drivers with greater flexibility in terms of inspection hours.

The decision to involve the private sector in vehicle inspections aligns with Bahrain’s efforts to modernize and improve its public services. By allowing private centres to conduct inspections, the government has created a more competitive and customer-focused environment for car owners. With inspections now being carried out by licensed centres according to schedules set by the Traffic Directorate, drivers can expect a smoother and more convenient experience when it comes to ensuring the roadworthiness of their vehicles.

Overall, the shift towards private vehicle inspections in Bahrain has been a positive development for both car owners and the government. By working with licensed centres to conduct inspections, the government has not only reduced queues and costs but has also improved the efficiency and quality of the service provided. With the Traffic Directorate now focusing on overseeing the inspection process, drivers can benefit from a more streamlined and convenient experience when it comes to ensuring that their vehicles meet the necessary standards for roadworthiness.
