A recent clampdown on labour law violations in Bahrain has led to the deportation of 151 workers, following 2,179 inspections carried out by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) from 22 to 28 September 2024. These inspections revealed serious breaches of regulations, resulting in the detention of 40 workers found to be in violation of the law, and triggering immediate legal action against those involved. Violations of both the Labour Market Regulatory Authority Law and the Residency Law were identified during this period.
Throughout the inspection period, the LMRA conducted 2,147 visits to various commercial establishments across all governorates, as well as 32 joint inspection campaigns. Eighteen of these campaigns were held in the Capital Governorate, with four in the Muharraq and Northern Governorates, and six in the Southern Governorate. The operation involved collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, including the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residence, as well as local police directorates and other relevant agencies.
The LMRA emphasized the importance of continued coordination with government entities to strengthen inspection efforts across Bahrain and address any violations that could disrupt the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or threaten the country’s economic and social security. The authority called on community members to support government initiatives against illegal practices in the labour market and irregular employment, encouraging individuals to report any concerns regarding labour market violations. This can be done by completing the electronic form available on the LMRA’s official website, using the national system for suggestions and complaints (Tawasul), or contacting the authority’s call centre at 17506055.
