Oman residents are increasing their travel budgets by at least 10 per cent this year compared to 2023. The surge in spending is attributed to rising flight ticket prices and increasing costs of visas. Travel agents have noticed that travellers are opting for more luxury options in land arrangements, such as hotels and sightseeing activities, which further contributes to the overall increase in travel costs. Additionally, the government of New Zealand has announced a nearly triple increase in entry fees for foreign tourists, from NZ$35 to NZ$100, effective from October 1. This measure aims to ensure that visitors contribute to public services and high-quality experiences while visiting the country.

Like many other popular destinations, New Zealand has been dealing with the challenges associated with excess tourism, including environmental and social impacts. The European Commission has also announced a global increase in short-stay Schengen visa fees, with the cost for adult applicants rising from euro 80 to euro 90, and fees for children aged 6 to 12 increasing from euro 40 to euro 45. However, there is some good news for Omani citizens as some countries have relaxed their visa requirements. Omani citizens holding ordinary passports are now exempt from visa requirements for tourism travel to Türkiye. Additionally, EU countries have decided to grant 5-year multiple visas to citizens of Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain.

More recently, Pakistan introduced a new visa policy to attract more tourists and foreign investment as part of its Independence Day celebrations. Under the new policy, residents from GCC countries, including Oman, can now obtain a visa-on-arrival in Pakistan, which is valid for three months and can be renewed quickly. These developments in visa requirements and travel costs have implications for Oman residents and tourists from other countries who are considering visiting popular destinations. It is important for travellers to stay informed about visa regulations and budget for potential increases in travel costs.
