The Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA) recently held a meeting in Doha, where they expressed their gratitude to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for hosting the meeting. The council praised Qatar for its mediation efforts around the world. President of the 66th Session of the UNGA, H E Nassir Abdulaziz Al Nasser, thanked the participants in the meeting and highlighted the important role of the Presidents of the General Assembly in working towards a peaceful and prosperous world.

Al Nasser also spoke about the upcoming Future Summit in September, where world leaders will commit to protecting the interests of future generations. The summit will focus on long-term vision and planning, considering the interconnected global challenges such as climate change, equality, and technological progress. Qatar sees the enhancement of safe and trustworthy artificial intelligence systems as crucial for sustainable development goals. The UNCPGA emphasized the importance of comprehensive governance frameworks and international cooperation for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

The UNCPGA expressed its full support for the current President of the UNGA, H E Dennis Francis, and agreed to meet at the UN Headquarters in New York in September during the Future Summit. They also planned to hold their next annual meeting in the Republic of Korea in October. The council’s discussions and decisions reflect a commitment to global cooperation and addressing important issues facing the international community.

Qatar’s role in hosting the UNCPGA meeting and supporting mediation efforts demonstrates its commitment to promoting peace and prosperity on the global stage. The acknowledgment from the council highlights the importance of collaboration among nations in addressing challenges and working towards a better future for all. The upcoming Future Summit will provide an opportunity for world leaders to come together and discuss ways to protect future generations and address pressing global issues.

The emphasis on artificial intelligence and its role in sustainable development goals underscores the significance of technology in shaping the future. Qatar’s focus on governance frameworks and international cooperation in the use of artificial intelligence reflects a commitment to ensuring equitable access to technological advancements and overcoming disparities in the digital world. The UNCPGA’s support for these initiatives demonstrates a collective effort towards harnessing technology for the greater good.

As the UNCPGA looks ahead to future meetings and summits, it is clear that international collaboration and cooperation will continue to be at the forefront of discussions. By working together and supporting initiatives that promote peace, sustainability, and equitable access to technology, the council is setting a positive example for the global community. The decisions and commitments made during the Doha meeting reflect a shared dedication to addressing global challenges and building a better world for present and future generations.
