The UAE has recently experienced record-breaking heat, with temperatures reaching 49.9 °C in Mezaira, the highest so far this summer season. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported this temperature on Friday afternoon. The Met department had predicted temperatures to soar up to 49ºC in internal areas with humidity levels reaching 90 per cent. This extreme heat comes as the UAE officially enters summer, marked by the summer solstice on June 21st, the longest day of the year lasting 13 hours and 48 minutes.

As the third week of June transitions the country into ‘astronomical summer,’ residents can expect the most intense phase of the season to hit between mid-July and the end of August. During this time, temperatures peak, humidity levels rise up to 90 per cent, and dust storms from the desert may occur. These storms bring strong winds and sweeping hot sand clouds across the city, creating challenging conditions for residents and visitors alike. It is essential to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe in the intense summer heat.

The summer solstice marks the beginning of astronomical summer in the UAE, with one of Earth’s poles tilted closest to the sun, resulting in the longest day of the year. As the country experiences the peak of summer, it is crucial for individuals to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent heat-related illnesses. Additionally, taking breaks in air-conditioned spaces and wearing lightweight, breathable clothing can help combat the scorching temperatures. Being aware of weather advisories and following safety protocols is vital to staying safe during the hottest months of the year.

The UAE’s extreme summer conditions require residents to be vigilant and prepared for the challenges posed by the intense heat and humidity. It is essential to prioritize health and well-being by staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking shelter in air-conditioned environments when necessary. Dust storms and sand clouds can further exacerbate the heat, making it crucial to stay indoors or take precautions while venturing outside. By staying informed, following safety guidelines, and taking proactive measures, individuals can navigate the summer season safely and protect themselves from the adverse effects of extreme weather.

As the summer heat intensifies in the UAE, it is important to take proactive steps to stay safe and cool during the hottest months. By staying informed about weather updates, following safety recommendations, and prioritizing self-care, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures and humidity. Whether through staying indoors during peak heat hours, staying hydrated, or dressing in appropriate clothing, everyone can play a role in ensuring their well-being during the summer season. With the right precautions and awareness, residents can stay healthy and resilient in the face of extreme weather conditions.
