A UAE-based healthcare group has announced a partnership with Axiom Space to conduct medical research in space, focusing on how the human body responds to microgravity. Burjeel Holdings and Axiom Space plan to send advanced medical technologies to the International Space Station (ISS) to explore the effects of space on human health. The collaboration aims to develop healthcare solutions that could revolutionize treatments on Earth.

The initial phase of the partnership will involve testing medical tools commonly used in hospitals and clinics to study biomarkers, drug quality, and remote health services delivery in a microgravity environment. Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), scheduled for next spring, will see astronauts wearing and operating these technologies during training, launch, and space activities. The data collected from these experiments is expected to provide insights into human health for innovative advancements in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Axiom Space, emphasizing the potential for groundbreaking medical innovation in microgravity. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the unique environment of space to develop next-generation healthcare solutions that will benefit patients globally. The collaboration aligns with the UAE’s vision for space exploration and aims to improve patient outcomes through space-based research.

Dr. Lucie Low, chief scientist at Axiom Space, emphasized the significance of the partnership with Burjeel Holdings in advancing medical research in space. Axiom Space aims to create opportunities for organizations worldwide to conduct research in microgravity to deepen the understanding of the human body. The partnership serves to educate the global community on harnessing the microgravity environment for scientific and technological advancements that benefit humanity.

The collaboration between Burjeel Holdings and Axiom Space represents a commitment to advancing medical research in space and leveraging the unique environment of microgravity to develop innovative healthcare solutions. By sending advanced medical technologies to the ISS, the partnership aims to study the effects of space on human health and develop new approaches to disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The data collected from these experiments is expected to provide valuable insights that could lead to breakthroughs in medical science for the benefit of patients worldwide.
