In the UAE, institutions that issue fatwas or religious rulings will face fines ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh200,000, with the possibility of being shut down in case of violation. The only authority permitted to issue general fatwas in the country is the UAE Council for Fatwa, in accordance with Federal Law No. (3) of 2024. The fines for issuing unauthorized fatwas can be doubled in case of repeat violations, as per the authority’s regulations. The strict penalties are a part of the efforts to regulate religious rulings and ensure that they are issued by authorized bodies only.

Earlier this year, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed issued two federal decrees forming the UAE Council for Fatwa and appointing Abdullah bin Bayyah as Chairman of the Council with the Grade of Minister. The newly formed authority is responsible for issuing general, urgent, and new fatwas on various matters, conducting research in different fields of fatwas, providing legal opinions on relevant legislation, licensing the practice of issuing fatwas, and training muftis in the country. The establishment of the UAE Council for Fatwa aims to centralize the issuance of religious rulings and prevent unauthorized institutions from misguiding the public with incorrect or biased fatwas.

The penalties for unauthorized issuance of fatwas highlight the importance of following the regulatory framework set by the UAE Council for Fatwa and abiding by Federal Law No. (3) of 2024. By imposing fines and potential closure of violating institutions, the authorities aim to maintain the integrity and authenticity of religious rulings in the country. It is crucial for religious institutions and individuals to seek guidance from authorized bodies like the UAE Council for Fatwa to ensure the accuracy and legitimacy of the fatwas being issued.

To stay informed about the latest news and updates regarding the UAE Council for Fatwa and other regulatory bodies, individuals can follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. This platform provides real-time information on legal matters, news updates, and regulatory changes in the country, enabling individuals to stay compliant with the regulations. By staying connected with reliable news sources, individuals can avoid falling prey to misinformation or unauthorized fatwas issued by institutions that are not authorized by the UAE Council for Fatwa.

In conclusion, the strict penalties imposed on institutions that issue unauthorized fatwas in the UAE are a clear indication of the government’s commitment to regulating religious rulings and ensuring their authenticity. By centralizing the issuance of fatwas under the UAE Council for Fatwa, the authorities aim to prevent the spread of false or misleading information that could potentially harm the community. It is essential for individuals and institutions to adhere to the regulatory framework set by the UAE Council for Fatwa to avoid facing fines and penalties for unauthorized religious rulings. By following authorized bodies and staying informed about the latest legal updates, individuals can contribute to a more regulated and authentic religious landscape in the UAE.
