The United Arab Emirates has made a significant commitment towards alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Sudan by pledging $8 million to the World Health Organisation (WHO). This collaboration, signed in Geneva, aims to fund critical health initiatives in Sudan to improve the dire conditions faced by its population. The UAE’s contribution is part of its broader commitment to global humanitarian relief and supports WHO’s efforts in conflict-impacted regions, focusing on healthcare infrastructure, emergency response capabilities, and disease prevention programs.

The agreement between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and WHO was signed by Sultan Al Shamsi and Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, with Lana Zaki Nusseibeh present at the WHO headquarters in Geneva. Nusseibeh emphasized the importance of supporting WHO’s mission in Sudan, highlighting the longstanding partnership between the UAE and WHO. Dr. Tedros expressed gratitude for the UAE’s generous pledge and emphasized the importance of collaboration to protect the lives of vulnerable populations in Sudan and neighboring countries.

The UAE’s contribution to WHO is part of a larger commitment of $70 million dedicated to addressing urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan through various UN agencies and humanitarian organizations. This funding is a significant portion of the $100 million pledge made by the UAE in April at the ‘International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighboring Countries’. Over the past 10 years, the UAE has provided more than $3.5 billion in aid to Sudan, demonstrating its commitment to supporting those in crisis situations.

The funding from the UAE will support WHO’s efforts in providing essential healthcare services in Sudan. This includes strengthening healthcare infrastructure, enhancing emergency response capabilities, and implementing disease prevention programs to improve the health outcomes of the population. The collaboration between the UAE and WHO underscores the importance of international partnerships in addressing humanitarian crises and supporting the most vulnerable communities.

By investing in critical health initiatives in Sudan, the UAE is contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare services and outcomes in the region. The funding from the UAE will help WHO in addressing urgent health needs and saving lives in Sudan and neighboring countries. This collaboration reflects the UAE’s commitment to standing by the people of Sudan during times of crisis and supporting global efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation in conflict-impacted regions.

In conclusion, the UAE’s $8 million commitment to WHO for health initiatives in Sudan is a significant step towards addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region. This collaboration underscores the UAE’s dedication to global humanitarian relief efforts and highlights the importance of international partnerships in providing support to vulnerable populations. By working together with WHO, the UAE aims to improve healthcare services, emergency response capabilities, and disease prevention programs in Sudan, ultimately benefiting the population in need.
