His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman has recently issued two Royal decrees regarding international agreements. Royal Decree No. 42/2024 ratifies an agreement between the government of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) related to the headquarters of the GCC Supreme Council Advisory Board, the Gulf Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, and the GCC Center for Translation, Arabisation, and Promotion of Arabic. This decree ratifies the agreement attached to it and will be enforced from its date of issue.

In addition, Royal Decree No. 43/2024 ratifies an agreement to amend the protocol attached to the agreement signed in Vienna on 7 December 2016, between Oman and the International Atomic Energy Agency. This amendment is related to the application of guarantees within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The decree ratifies the amended agreement and instructs the relevant departments to deposit the ratification document as required. This decree will also be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue.

These Royal decrees demonstrate Oman’s commitment to fulfilling its international obligations and engaging with regional and global partners through agreements and protocols. By ratifying these agreements, Oman is actively participating in initiatives related to education, quality assurance, translation, and nuclear non-proliferation. This reaffirms Oman’s stance as a responsible member of the international community, willing to cooperate and collaborate on important issues.

The agreement regarding the headquarters of the GCC Supreme Council Advisory Board, the Gulf Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, and the GCC Center for Translation, Arabisation, and Promotion of Arabic highlights Oman’s dedication to supporting educational development and promoting the Arabic language within the GCC region. By ratifying this agreement, Oman is contributing to the enhancement of higher education standards and the preservation and promotion of the Arabic language and culture.

On the other hand, the agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency demonstrates Oman’s commitment to upholding international non-proliferation norms and regulations. By amending the protocol related to the application of guarantees within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Oman is reinforcing its commitment to peaceful uses of nuclear energy while ensuring compliance with international safeguards.

Overall, these Royal decrees signify Oman’s active engagement in regional and global initiatives, showcasing the country’s dedication to cooperation, collaboration, and compliance with international agreements and protocols. Through these actions, Oman continues to uphold its reputation as a responsible and proactive member of the international community, committed to promoting peace, security, and mutual understanding.
