The Embassy of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Business Council Initiative, recently organized the Sri Lankan Roadshow – 2024 in Muscat, Oman. The event, held under the theme of ‘Serendib the Golden Island’, aimed to promote Sri Lankan Culture, Tourism, and Trade. Attendees got to experience the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through various performances, traditional dances, and informative presentations about the country’s history, trade opportunities, and tourism sector. The event was well-received by both the Omani and expatriate communities, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Sri Lankan Roadshow kicked off with a grand ceremony featuring a procession of Sri Lankan children representing the country’s multiethnic groups, beating of traditional drums, and the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The event showcased a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dances, including the Puja dance, Kohomba Hella, Ravana dance, and Chamara dance, which impressed the audience with their vibrant colors and intricate choreography. These performances, choreographed by talented individuals living in Oman, provided a glimpse into the diverse cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.

Throughout the event, guests were treated to cultural performances that highlighted Sri Lanka’s history, including its colonization by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. The Sri Lankan Calipso band, Sinhayo, took the audience on a musical journey through the tea plantation initiation during the colonial era. The event also featured a Fashion Show, showcasing stunning designs inspired by Sri Lankan tradition and culture. Additionally, guests had the opportunity to taste traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeats and Ceylon tea, adding to the authentic experience of the roadshow.

One of the highlights of the event was the performance of the popular song ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ in Arabic attire by students, showcasing the universal appeal of Sri Lankan music. The event also included interactive sessions with spot questions for attendees, as well as a Raffle Draw offering enticing prizes, including an all-inclusive vacation to Sri Lanka. The roadshow attracted over 500 Sri Lankans residing in Oman and more than 500 Omanis and other nationals, who gathered at the Oasis Mall in Al Khuwair to celebrate Sri Lankan culture and hospitality.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador, Sabarullah Khan, emphasized the importance of promoting Sri Lanka as a travel destination and expanding trade relations with Oman. He highlighted the role of the Sri Lanka Business Council Initiative in strengthening economic ties between the two countries. The event provided a platform for business networking, cultural exchange, and showcasing Sri Lanka’s offerings to the Omani community. The Ambassador expressed optimism about the potential for increased exports from Sri Lanka to Oman, benefiting both nations.

In conclusion, the Sri Lankan Roadshow – 2024 was a resounding success, showcasing the vibrant culture, rich history, and trade opportunities of Sri Lanka to the people of Oman. The event fostered greater understanding and appreciation of Sri Lankan heritage and traditions among the attendees, while also enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. Through cultural performances, interactive sessions, and engaging presentations, the roadshow provided a unique and memorable experience for all who attended, promoting Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination and a promising trade partner in the region.
