UAE Swimmer Yousef Al Matrooshi Sets New Personal Record in 100m Freestyle at Paris Olympics

UAE swimmer Yousef Al Matrooshi participated in the 100-metre freestyle heats at the Paris Olympics, finishing 44th out of 79 swimmers with a new personal best time of 50:39. The 21-year-old swimmer had undergone a training program focusing on mental and psychological aspects, set by national swimming team coach Marwan Al Hattawi. Meanwhile, UAE judoka Talal Shafili lost his preliminary round bout in the under 81kg category to Puerto Rican champion Gandia Adrian.

The UAE’s Olympic campaign began with swimmer Maha Al Shehhi finishing 28th in the 200m freestyle event, breaking her personal record. Judoka Khorloodoi Bishrelt and Narmand Bayan also faced defeats in their respective events. A 14-member team of athletes represents the UAE at the Paris Olympics, with equestrian rider Omar Al Marzouqi and cyclist Safiya Al Sayegh carrying the UAE’s flag during the opening ceremony.

Omar Al Marzouqi, a silver medallist in individual showjumping at the 2018 Youth Olympics, is a bright medal hope for the UAE at the Paris Olympics. The national equestrian team will compete in the show jumping competition, followed by individual competitions. Safiya Al Sayegh, the first female Emirati cyclist to qualify for the Olympics, will participate in the road race event.

Al Matrooshi, Al Shehhi, Bishrelt, Bayan, Shafili, Al Marzouqi, and Al Sayegh are among the UAE athletes competing at the Paris Olympics. The UAE’s participation in various events showcases the country’s commitment to sports and participation on the global stage. The athletes have put in their best efforts to represent the UAE and make their mark in their respective sports at the prestigious Olympic Games. Through hard work, dedication, and training, these athletes aim to achieve success and bring glory to their nation.
