Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his concern over the team’s lack of goals being the main issue for their slow start to the season. The recent 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the Europa League and a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League have highlighted this problem. Despite a strong start against Twente with Christian Eriksen’s goal, United failed to capitalize on their chances, resulting in Twente equalizing. This lack of ruthlessness in front of goal is something Ten Hag is keen to address, especially with their upcoming match against Tottenham.

Ten Hag pointed out that scoring more goals as a team is crucial and believes they have players capable of doing so. Despite the disappointment in recent matches, United did manage to secure victories against Southampton and Barnsley after the international break. The inconsistency in results has left Ten Hag emphasizing that the team is a work in progress, with the need to sign new players and continue developing young talents like Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro. Despite his impatience to see immediate results, Ten Hag acknowledges the need for hard work to achieve further success.

The Dutch manager’s focus on scoring goals is evident in United’s gameplay, with numerous opportunities created but not converted. The team’s ability to create chances is there, but the finishing touch is lacking, leading to dropped points. Ten Hag’s frustration with the current situation is visible, but he remains committed to improving the team’s performance. Bringing in young talents and building them up for the future is part of United’s long-term strategy, with a balance between immediate success and future development essential for the team’s progress.

United’s recent achievements, such as winning the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, demonstrate their potential under Ten Hag’s leadership. However, the manager acknowledges the need to continue working hard and pushing for more success in the future. The upcoming match against Tottenham will be crucial for United to showcase their goal-scoring abilities and bounce back from recent setbacks. Ten Hag’s determination to see his team succeed is evident in his willingness to address the issues and work towards improvement, emphasizing the importance of scoring goals to secure positive results in matches.

As the season progresses, United will have to find a balance between immediate success and long-term development, with Ten Hag leading the team through this transitional phase. The focus on goal-scoring and improving the team’s finishing abilities will be key going forward, as United aim to climb the league standings and compete for silverware. With a talented squad and a manager committed to their success, United will continue to work hard and push for improvement, hoping to return to winning ways and achieve their goals under Erik ten Hag’s guidance.
