Qatar is gearing up for the 33rd edition of the Paris 2024 Olympics with 14 male and female athletes set to represent the country from July 26 to August 11. The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) announced the lineup during a press conference held recently, showcasing the country’s participation in this prestigious global event. Director of the QOC Sports Affairs Department, Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, highlighted the efforts made by Qatari federations and the preparations put in place to ensure the athletes are equipped in the best way possible for the competition.

Al Fadala expressed that Qatar’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics is a tremendous honor for all athletes involved, emphasizing the ambitious goals set to achieve outstanding results in this edition. He commended the qualified players for their spirit of challenge and responsibility to represent Qatar with pride at the Olympics. The international federations have set high standards for qualifying for the Games, enabling more Qatari athletes to make their mark on the global stage through hard work and dedication.

Mohammed Saeed Al Misnad, director of the Qatari administrative delegation to the tournament, highlighted the 14 athletes from five federations who will be participating in the major event. The athletes come from a variety of sports including athletics, volleyball, shooting, weightlifting, and swimming. Mutaz Essa Barshim and Shahad Mohammed have been selected to carry the Qatari flag in the opening ceremony, showcasing their leadership and representation of the country.

Preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics began immediately after the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, with the Qatari athletes set to arrive in Paris on July 19. Al Misnad expressed optimism for the athletes to bring home medals in this edition, building on their success in Tokyo where Qatar won three medals including two golds. The goal is to maintain the high level of performance and success achieved in the previous Olympics.

QOC has planned a reception ceremony on August 1 during the Paris 2024 Olympics to strengthen ties with the International Olympic Committee, continental, and national Olympic committees. The organization is committed to supporting the athletes and ensuring their safety throughout the competition, allowing them to remain focused and perform at their best. With the experience gained from Tokyo 2020, the Qatari athletes are well-prepared and optimistic about their chances in Paris, aiming for a successful outcome and possibly adding more medals to their collection.

Qatar made history in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by clinching three medals, including two gold medals in athletics and weightlifting, and a bronze in beach volleyball. This achievement placed Qatar at the top among Arab countries in the Olympics, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in the world of sports. As the athletes gear up for the Paris 2024 Olympics, all eyes are on them to see if they can replicate their success and make Qatar proud once again on the international stage.
