Palestine’s national football team recently faced off against South Korea in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asia qualifiers, putting up a strong fight in a 0-0 draw. Despite being ranked 96th in FIFA’s rankings, Palestine did not back down against the more established South Korean team, making their mark in an open and entertaining match in Seoul. Due to the conflict in Gaza, Palestine plays their home matches abroad and many of their players are currently without a club, facing several obstacles in their journey to the World Cup.

During the match, Palestine thought they had taken the lead in the 22nd minute, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. The South Korean team, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, struggled to find their footing and create scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, they were unable to break the deadlock against the Palestinian defense, with goalkeeper Rami Hamadeh making crucial saves to keep the visitors in the game.

In the second half, Palestine began to tire but continued to hold their ground, limiting South Korea’s chances and launching occasional counterattacks. The South Korean team’s frustration was evident as they missed key opportunities, with Lee Kang-in failing to convert a close-range effort, and Hamadeh making a remarkable save to deny a free-kick from Lee. Palestine’s Oday Dabbagh also had a chance on the break, highlighting their resilience and determination throughout the match.

Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Makram Daboub, Palestine has made significant strides in recent years, achieving milestones in major tournaments such as the Asian Cup. They secured their spot in the World Cup qualifiers by finishing second in their group behind Australia, showcasing their potential and skill on the international stage. Despite facing challenges such as a suspended local league and limited resources, the Palestinian team continues to defy odds and prove their worth against top-tier opponents.

Looking ahead, Palestine will prepare for their upcoming qualifier against Jordan in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to build on their recent success and secure crucial points in their World Cup campaign. With a dedicated coaching staff and a determined squad, the Palestinian national team is on a mission to make history and qualify for their first-ever World Cup. Their resilience, unity, and passion for the game have captivated fans around the world, making them a team to watch in the upcoming qualifiers and beyond.
