Manchester City faced a challenging game against Newcastle without the presence of their star midfielder, Rodri, who is out for the season due to a knee injury. The absence of Rodri was felt as the team struggled to control the midfield and secure the win. Teenager Rico Lewis was brought in to fill the void left by Rodri, but the team lacked the same level of composure and control on the ball.

Despite taking the lead through Josko Gvardiol’s goal, City were unable to hold onto their advantage as Newcastle fought back and secured a point with Anthony Gordon’s second-half penalty. This result leaves City two points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal all in contention to overtake them by the end of the weekend. Guardiola acknowledged the importance of Rodri to the team, describing him as “irreplaceable”, but remains confident in finding a collective solution to cope with his absence.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have had a mixed start to the season, with results not always reflecting their performances on the pitch. Missing key players like Alexander Isak, the Magpies have managed to secure a point against the defending champions, showcasing their resilience and fighting spirit. Despite struggling to threaten City in the first half, Newcastle improved in the second half and were rewarded with a well-deserved equalizer from Gordon’s penalty.

City had opportunities to snatch the three points, with chances falling to the likes of Foden, Haaland, and Silva, but were unable to find the back of the net. Newcastle, meanwhile, pushed for a winning goal late in the game, with Longstaff missing a great chance to secure victory for his team. The dropped points offer hope to City’s title rivals that they may have a chance to challenge for the top spot in the league, as Guardiola’s men begin to show signs of vulnerability.

Overall, the absence of Rodri proved to be a significant loss for Manchester City in their game against Newcastle, as they dropped points for the second consecutive match. Despite taking the lead, City were unable to secure the win, with Newcastle fighting back to earn a valuable point. The result leaves City vulnerable at the top of the table, with their title rivals looking to capitalize on any further slip-ups. Guardiola will need to find a way to adapt to life without Rodri if City are to maintain their position as title contenders in the Premier League.
