Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, the President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, is set to be re-elected as head of the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) for a second consecutive term from 2024-2028. He is the sole nominee for the position, with nominations for the new term closing on August 23. The announcement of Al Mohannadi’s re-election will take place at the union’s General Assembly in Kazakhstan on October 12 during the Asian Table Tennis Championship from October 7 to 13. This meeting will also see the appointment of vice-presidents, regional representatives, and members of the board of directors and various committees.
In October 2021, Al Mohannadi first assumed the presidency of the ATTU during the General Assembly in Doha, coinciding with the Asian men’s and women’s championships at the Lusail Hall. He made history as the first Arab and Qatari to hold this position since the ATTU’s establishment in 1972, becoming the sixth president in the union’s history. Al Mohannadi’s leadership has been pivotal in advancing the sport of table tennis in the Asian region, and his re-election signifies continued support and confidence in his capabilities to lead the ATTU.
Al Mohannadi’s dedication to promoting table tennis in Asia and enhancing the development of the sport has been evident through his initiatives and efforts during his tenure as the ATTU president. Under his leadership, the ATTU has seen significant growth and progress, with a focus on fostering talent, expanding participation, and organizing high-quality tournaments across the continent. His re-election will ensure continuity in these strategic objectives and sustained momentum in driving the sport forward in the Asian region.
As the only candidate for the position of ATTU president, Al Mohannadi’s unopposed re-election reflects the trust and endorsement of the member associations within the union. His proven track record and achievements in strengthening the ATTU’s position in the global table tennis community have positioned him as a respected and influential figure in the sport. With his re-election, Al Mohannadi is poised to build upon his past accomplishments and further elevate the status of Asian table tennis on the international stage.
The upcoming General Assembly in Kazakhstan will serve as a platform for Al Mohannadi to outline his vision and plans for the future of the ATTU, engaging with stakeholders and member associations to shape the strategic direction of the union. The event will also provide an opportunity for networking, collaboration, and exchange of ideas among key figures in the table tennis community, reinforcing the unity and solidarity within the Asian table tennis family. Al Mohannadi’s re-election will signal a new chapter in the journey of the ATTU, marked by continued growth, innovation, and excellence in the sport of table tennis in the Asian region and beyond.
