Iran dominate Qatar in World Cup Qualifiers

Iran displayed an impressive performance during their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Qatar, as they staged a strong comeback to secure a 4-1 victory. Sardar Azmoun and Mohammad Mohebi each scored twice, with Azmoun equalizing in the 42nd minute and then putting Iran ahead just three minutes into the second half. Azmoun continued to play a crucial role in the match, setting up Mohebi for Iran’s third goal in the 65th minute. Mohebi then sealed the victory with a goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

The win against Qatar propelled Iran to the top of Group A in the qualifiers with 10 points, ahead of Uzbekistan on goal difference. Uzbekistan managed to edge the United Arab Emirates 1-0 in Tashkent to stay in second place. On the other hand, Qatar now finds themselves in a challenging position, sitting fourth in the group with four points, behind the UAE on goal difference.

In another match in the group, Kyrgyzstan secured their first win by defeating North Korea 1-0 in Bishkek. This victory propelled Kyrgyzstan to fifth place in the standings, pushing North Korea to the bottom with just 2 points. The top two teams from the group will secure direct qualification for the World Cup, adding pressure to the remaining matches in the qualification round.

The Iranian players celebrated their victory with enthusiasm, showcasing their determination and skill on the field. The team’s performance was praised by fans and analysts alike, highlighting their resilience and ability to stage a strong comeback against tough opponents.
