The Paris Olympics kicked off with Team China clinching the first gold medal of the games in the mixed-team 10-metre air rifle event. The teenage duo of Sheng Lihao and Huang Yuting outscored their South Korean competitors, Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun, to secure the victory. Kazakhstan took home the bronze in a closely contested final. The rain that marred the opening ceremony continued to affect the sporting events, with the men’s street skateboarding competition and tennis matches being postponed due to the inclement weather.

The swimming competition also started at La Defense Arena, with the women’s 400m freestyle event stealing the spotlight. Defending champion Ariarne Titmus from Australia is the favorite to win, going up against strong competitors like Katie Ledecky from the US and Canadian sensation Summer McIntosh. The men’s 400m freestyle and the men’s and women’s 4x100m freestyle relays are among the other events offering gold medals on the first night of swimming action. Other sporting events like badminton, rowing, cycling, hockey, and basketball also commenced on the opening day of the Olympics.

Reigning French Open champions Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz graced the clay courts of Roland Garros on the first day of action, weather permitting. Alcaraz teamed up with Rafael Nadal in the men’s doubles, creating a Spanish dream pairing that attracted attention from fans. Chinese shooters Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao are favorites to clinch the first gold medal in shooting after their victorious performance at the world championships in Baku last year. The diving competition also kicked off with the women’s synchronised 3m springboard final, where Chinese pair Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen are expected to secure the top spot.

The cycling events saw the first medals being awarded in the men’s and women’s individual time trials. The challenging 32.4-kilometer course provided a platform for cyclists to showcase their skills and compete for a coveted Olympic medal. Rugby fans were treated to exciting matches at the Stade de France, where France faced tough competition from South Africa in the semi-finals of rugby sevens. The host nation aimed to secure a spot in the gold medal match against either Fiji or Australia, who were battling it out in the other semi-final clash. Overall, the first full day of sporting action at the Paris Olympics offered a glimpse of the intense competition and camaraderie among athletes from around the world.

In conclusion, the Paris Olympics started with a bang as Team China secured the first gold medal of the games in the mixed-team 10-metre air rifle event. The inclement weather continued to pose challenges for athletes, with the men’s street skateboarding competition and tennis matches being postponed due to rain. Swimming, badminton, rowing, cycling, hockey, and basketball events also kicked off on the opening day, providing spectators with thrilling moments and impressive performances from athletes. As the games progressed, reigning champions like Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz showcased their skills on the clay courts of Roland Garros, while Chinese shooters Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao dominated the shooting competition.
