In an exciting AFC Champions League Elite West Zone clash, Fabio Lima scored Al Wasl’s first goal from the penalty spot to spark a comeback against Al Gharafa. The match ended with Al Wasl snatching a 2-1 victory with a late winning goal from Isaac Success. Al Gharafa had taken the lead through Ferjani Sassi in the 44th minute, but Al Wasl’s strong performance in the second half turned the tide in their favor. The win lifted Al Wasl to six points, while Al Gharafa remained on three points in the competition.

The game started with Al Wasl dominating possession, but it was Al Gharafa who struck first with Sassi’s goal from a corner just before halftime. Despite Al Wasl’s efforts to equalize in the second half, they missed several opportunities until a penalty was awarded against Al Gharafa for a handball. Lima successfully converted the penalty, leveling the score and shifting the momentum in Al Wasl’s favor.

As the match approached stoppage time, Success delivered the winning goal for Al Wasl after receiving a pass from Alexis Perez. Al Gharafa had multiple chances to equalize, but Joselu’s shot went high, missing the target. The win was a crucial one for Al Wasl as they continue their campaign in the competition, while Al Gharafa will need to focus on securing more points in their remaining matches to stay in contention.

Al Gharafa coach Pedro Martins expressed his disappointment at his team’s missed opportunities and the impact of the penalty on the result. Despite the loss, Martins remained optimistic about his team’s chances in the competition and emphasized the need to focus on upcoming matches. Al Wasl’s strong performance in the latter stages of the game showcased their resilience and determination to secure the victory.

In the next fixtures, Al Gharafa will face Iran’s Persepolis FC, while Al Wasl will host Al Sadd in Dubai on November 4. Both teams will be looking to build on their performances and secure vital points as they aim to progress further in the AFC Champions League competition. The thrilling encounter between Al Wasl and Al Gharafa highlighted the unpredictable nature of football and the importance of seizing opportunities to secure victories.
