Sharjah: Heartbroken neighbors mourn as 7-year-old dies in locked car

A tragic incident in Sharjah recently made headlines when a 7-year-old boy died in a locked car after being forgotten inside by the driver. The driver, who was not licensed to transport children to and from school, had been hired by some parents to drop off and pick up their children. The boy, a student at Ibn Sina School in Sharjah, was left inside the vehicle on a hot day, with temperatures reaching nearly 44°C. The driver, failing to notice the boy inside, left with her husband in another car and only realized her mistake when she returned to pick up the students.

The boy’s parents have reportedly forgiven the driver, although it is unclear if legal action will be taken against her by the police. The community has been left in shock and disbelief over the tragic incident, with neighbors describing the boy as always smiling and friendly. Many have expressed their grief and heartbreak over the loss of the young child, who was known for his cheerful demeanor. The watchman of a building where the boy used to attend private tuitions also expressed his shock and sorrow upon hearing the news.

The incident has highlighted the risks associated with using unauthorized car lift services, which some parents opt for due to the high costs of authorized school buses. Sharjah Police have cautioned against using illegal car lift services, emphasizing the safety and security measures in place on licensed school buses. Authorities in the UAE have implemented stricter protocols in school buses following previous instances of children being forgotten on board, resulting in tragic outcomes.

The tragic death of the 7-year-old boy serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations when it comes to transporting children. Parents are urged to prioritize the well-being and security of their children by using authorized transportation services and ensuring that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. As the community mourns the loss of a young life, efforts are being made to raise awareness about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially in extreme heat conditions. By staying vigilant and following safety guidelines, similar tragedies can be prevented.
