Saudi Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi, recently visited Kuala Lumpur to meet with key Malaysian officials, including Minister of Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives, Ion Benedick, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad Sabu, and Minister of Works, Alexander Nanta Linggi. The discussions, attended by Saudi Deputy Minister of Commerce and CEO of the National Competitiveness Centre, Dr. Iman bint Habas Al-Mutairi, and Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia, Musaed bin Ibrahim Al-Saleem, focused on Malaysia’s support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cooperation in training, knowledge transfer, innovation, and sustainability. The visit aimed to enhance bilateral trade and increase economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, with the launch of the Saudi-Malaysian Business Council as a key highlight.

During the visit, Dr. Al-Qasabi and Malaysian officials discussed the facilities available to businesses in both countries, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s efforts to become a global center for trade and logistics services. The discussions also touched on cooperation in building capabilities in innovation, emerging technologies, research programs, and e-commerce. Meetings with the Malaysian business sector focused on reforms and legislation related to the business environment, as well as opportunities for bilateral partnerships between the two countries’ business sectors. The Saudi delegation included representatives from various government agencies, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing trade relations and economic cooperation.

The Saudi delegation, comprising 30 officials from the public and private sectors, participated in a series of meetings and discussions with Malaysian officials and business leaders. The visit provided an opportunity for both countries to exchange ideas and experiences in supporting SMEs, promoting innovation, and creating sustainable business practices. By focusing on key areas such as training, knowledge transfer, and research programs, the two countries aim to strengthen their economic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration in the future.

In addition to meetings with government officials, the Saudi delegation engaged with the Malaysian business sector to explore potential partnerships and opportunities for investment. Discussions centered on the advantages and facilities available for businesses in Saudi Arabia, as well as ways to encourage economic activities and promote growth. By highlighting the Kingdom’s commitment to creating a favorable business environment, the delegation sought to attract Malaysian companies interested in expanding their operations and tapping into the Saudi market.

The visit also underscored the importance of cooperation in building capabilities in emerging technologies, research, and innovation. By sharing best practices and knowledge, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia aim to enhance their competitiveness on a global scale and leverage their strengths in key sectors such as trade, logistics, and e-commerce. The Saudi-Malaysian Business Council, established during the visit, will serve as a platform for fostering partnerships and facilitating collaboration between businesses from both countries, further strengthening their economic ties.

Overall, the working visit by the Saudi delegation to Kuala Lumpur marked a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade and economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. By engaging with government officials, business leaders, and key stakeholders, the delegation sought to identify opportunities for cooperation, exchange ideas, and explore new avenues for collaboration. As both countries continue to prioritize economic development and growth, partnerships like the Saudi-Malaysian Business Council will play a crucial role in driving innovation, fostering sustainable practices, and creating new opportunities for businesses to thrive in the global marketplace.
