Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo bid farewell to Formula One in style at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. Despite finishing last, Ricciardo managed to secure the fastest lap of the race, denying it to race winner Lando Norris. This move could prove crucial for his former teammate Max Verstappen’s title race, as Norris was set to grab the bonus point. Verstappen, who finished second in the race, thanked Ricciardo and the Red Bull team for preventing his lead in the title race from being reduced any further.

Known as the “Honey Badger,” Ricciardo is loved by fans for his affable nature, infectious smile, and sense of humor. With eight Grand Prix wins and 32 podium appearances during his 13-year career, Ricciardo has left a lasting impact on the sport. He introduced the “Shoey” celebration to Formula One podiums, where he drinks champagne from his sweaty racing boot. Despite not having the fairytale ending he may have hoped for, Ricciardo expressed his gratitude for being voted as the driver of the day by global TV viewers.

After the race, Ricciardo joked that if Verstappen wins the title by just one point, he guaranteed himself a nice Christmas present with his fastest lap. Throughout his career with teams like Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, and McLaren, Ricciardo amassed 1,329 points and established himself as a competitive and charismatic driver on the grid. The driver of the day award holds special significance for him, as it acknowledges his contributions and achievements in Formula One over the years.

As Ricciardo bids goodbye to Formula One, fans and fellow drivers alike will miss his presence in the paddock. His unique personality and racing style have left a lasting impression on the sport. Despite not achieving the fairytale ending he may have hoped for, Ricciardo can look back on his career with pride and gratitude for the memories and experiences he has gained. With his infectious smile and positive attitude, Ricciardo has endeared himself to fans around the world, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
