In today’s fast-paced world, people are often disconnected from their heritage and culture. To address this issue, Samaneh Mojaveri, along with Khalil Sheikh, formed RUMInation, a unique concept that combines performing arts with storytelling from various cultures. The ensemble showcases elements from Farsi, Arabic, and Indian traditions through music, dance, and poetry, aiming to reconnect audiences with their roots and shared history.

Khalil Sheikh, a prominent musician from Iran, leads RUMInation alongside Samaneh Mojaveri, who produces and presents the shows. Together with other artists like Swarashri Shridhar, Hooman Shirali, and Sandu, they bring to life folk tales and poems that have been passed down through generations. Their performances are a fusion of different cultural elements that create a sense of belonging and identity among the audience.

The essence of RUMInation’s shows lies in their ability to connect people through music and storytelling. Sheikh believes that in today’s chaotic world, there is a need for empathy and emotional connection, which music can provide. Through concerts held at the 360° Theatre of Digital Arts (TODA), Madinat Jumeirah, he and his team showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Silk Road, transcending boundaries and uniting audiences through shared experiences.

One of the unique aspects of RUMInation’s concerts is their improvisation on stage, which challenges the artists to be spontaneous and authentic. Swarashri Shridhar, a Kathak exponent, finds inspiration in the music played by Sheikh and Sandu, allowing her to explore her narrative through dance. The fusion of different musical traditions creates a dynamic and immersive experience for the audience, evoking a sense of nostalgia and connection.

The emotional depth and spontaneity of RUMInation’s performances resonate with audiences across generations. By delving into the works of iconic figures like Ibn Batuta and Rumi, the ensemble invites viewers to reflect on their own emotions and connections to the past. Through word of mouth and the simplicity of folk traditions, RUMInation has gained popularity among audiences seeking authentic and original cultural experiences.

As RUMInation prepares to celebrate Rumi’s 817th birthday with a show titled “Rumi, A Voice of Our Times,” the ensemble continues to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling and music. Through their dynamic blend of poetry, music, and dance, RUMInation offers a fresh perspective on traditional art forms and invites audiences to rediscover the beauty of their shared cultural heritage.
