Tadej Pogacar made history at the Tour de France, winning his third title and achieving the Giro d’Italia-Tour de France double. In a thrilling battle with defending champion Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel, Pogacar came out on top, finishing over 6 minutes ahead of Vingegaard in the final standings. He described the current era of cycling as a “golden age” due to the intense competition among riders like Evenepoel, Vingegaard, and Primoz Roglic.

Pogacar’s dominance was evident throughout the race as he won six stages, replicating his success at the Giro earlier in the season. The Slovenian rider expressed his joy at achieving the double, debunking the notion that his Giro win was a safety net for the Tour. This victory solidifies his status as one of cycling’s top talents and showcases his remarkable consistency in major races.

The Tour de France concluded with a unique route on the French Riviera to avoid Olympic Games sites in Paris. Pogacar sealed his victory with a commanding lead on the downhill stages, leaving Vingegaard struggling to keep up. Despite challenges and crashes along the way, Pogacar’s determination and skill propelled him to another impressive win. Evenepoel, another top contender, settled for third overall but secured the white jersey for best young rider.

Several other riders shone during the Tour, including Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay, who won three stages and claimed the green jersey for sprint points. Richard Carapaz and Mark Cavendish also made their mark with stage wins and jersey victories, contributing to the race’s excitement and diversity. Cavendish, in particular, celebrated his record-breaking 35th stage win and hinted at retirement after a long and successful career.

The Tour de France not only showcased thrilling competition but also highlighted the camaraderie and diversity within the cycling world. From emerging talents like Girmay to seasoned veterans like Cavendish, the race brought together riders from different backgrounds and nations. Pogacar’s historic win and the performances of other stars cemented the Tour’s status as one of the most prestigious events in cycling, capturing the hearts of fans worldwide.
