Omani environmental expert awarded Arab Women’s Excellence Award

Dr. Thuraya Said Al Sariri, an ecology activist, has recently been honored with the Arab Women’s Excellence Award for her outstanding contributions in the field of environmental action. With her role as the Assistant Director General for Nature Conservation at the Environment Authority, Dr. Al Sariri has dedicated her expertise to protecting the environment and promoting sustainability in the Sultanate of Oman.

In her role, Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri represents Oman at various international meetings and councils, including the UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council for Man and Biosphere Reserves. She is also a member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and heads the Specialized Group of Plant Experts for the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia under the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Her expertise has also led her to lead national teams in preparing Oman’s environmental strategy and other significant projects aimed at conservation efforts.

One of Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri’s most notable contributions is her involvement in projects that have led to the establishment of nature reserves in Oman. Her dedication and expertise have not only been recognized locally but also on a regional level through awards such as the Arab Women’s Excellence Award (4th Edition), which highlights her commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability.

Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri’s leadership extends to numerous national teams, including the technical team responsible for preparing Oman’s environmental strategy and the governance team overseeing Oman’s participation in international events such as the 29th Climate Summit. Her passion for nature conservation is evident in her involvement in initiatives such as the “National Initiative to Plant 10 Million Trees,” showcasing her commitment to creating a greener environment in Oman.

Through her leadership and expertise, Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri has played a vital role in promoting environmental conservation in Oman and the wider region. Her passion for protecting nature and preserving biodiversity has been instrumental in the establishment of nature reserves and the implementation of sustainable practices. Dr. Al Sariri’s commitment to environmental action has not only earned her prestigious awards but has also inspired others to follow in her footsteps and work towards a greener and more sustainable future for all.
