The future of Gulf cooperation and regional stability were central themes today as the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 166th Session of the Ministerial Council Preparatory Meeting for the 46th Session of the Supreme Council of the GCC. Held in Manama, Bahrain, the meeting focused on strengthening ties and addressing key challenges facing the member states, paving the way for a productive Supreme Council Summit. This crucial gathering underscores the commitment of the Gulf Cooperation Council to continued integration and shared prosperity.

Oman’s Role in Advancing GCC Objectives

The Omani delegation, led by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, actively contributed to discussions surrounding cooperation in political, economic, security, and developmental spheres. Oman’s participation highlights its dedication to the GCC’s overarching goals of fostering a unified and resilient Gulf region. The session concentrated on practical initiatives designed to benefit all member nations and enhance their collective standing on the global stage.

Key Discussions and Areas of Focus

The Ministerial Council Preparatory Meeting addressed a wide spectrum of issues critical to the Gulf Cooperation Council‘s continued success. Discussions included mechanisms for deepening economic integration, bolstering security collaboration in the face of regional threats, and accelerating sustainable development projects. The emphasis was placed on translating existing agreements into tangible results that directly improve the lives of citizens across the GCC member states.

Bahrain’s Chairmanship and Vision for the Future

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, chaired the session, emphasizing Bahrain’s commitment to furthering GCC collaboration. He stated that hosting the 46th Supreme Council Summit is a testament to the shared dedication to the principles that have guided the Council for over four decades. Further reinforcing the spirit of unity, Al Zayani articulated a vision for continued cohesion and expanding cooperation.

He acknowledged the challenges the GCC has successfully navigated, highlighting its growing influence as a regional force for stability and its globally recognized developmental accomplishments. The Bahraini Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of ongoing evaluation and adaptation to ensure the Council remains effective and responsive to evolving needs. Strengthening regional security was particularly emphasized as a crucial element for sustained growth and prosperity.

Secretary General Highlights GCC’s Progress and Future Aspirations

Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, echoed the sentiments of unity and progress. He warmly welcomed Bahrain’s hosting of the Summit and expressed gratitude to Kuwait for its previous leadership. Al Budaiwi praised Kuwait’s successful approach to promoting joint Gulf action and setting the stage for continued momentum.

The Secretary General affirmed the GCC General Secretariat’s unwavering commitment to implementing directives aimed at achieving greater Gulf integration. He emphasized the importance of bolstering regional and international partnerships to further the Council’s objectives. He expressed optimism that the upcoming Summit would yield constructive decisions that would build upon the GCC’s strong foundations.

Strengthening Regional and International Cooperation

The meeting underscored the vital need for the GCC to play a proactive role in addressing broader regional and global challenges. Participants recognized the importance of upholding Arab causes, safeguarding Arab national security, and supporting the right to a stable and prosperous life for all Arab peoples. Moreover, the Council reaffirmed its dedication to collaborative efforts with the international community to promote peace, security, and sustainable development worldwide. This commitment to international collaboration demonstrates the GCC’s responsibility as a leading regional organization.

Attendees also discussed the importance of solidifying the GCC’s position as a credible and influential actor on the international stage, capable of contributing to the resolution of conflicts and the promotion of shared values.

Looking Ahead: The 46th Supreme Council Summit

The outcomes of the Ministerial Council Preparatory Meeting will be presented to the 46th Session of the Supreme Council, where leaders from the GCC member states will convene to chart the course for future cooperation. The groundwork laid in Manama provides a strong foundation for productive discussions and the adoption of ambitious initiatives that will further strengthen the Gulf Cooperation Council and advance the interests of its member nations. The focus will undoubtedly remain on enhancing security, driving economic growth, and fostering a deeper sense of unity among the Gulf states.

This commitment to consistent dialogue and collective action signals a positive outlook for the GCC and its role in shaping a more secure and prosperous future for the region. Continued progress depends on the ongoing dedication of all member states to the principles of cooperation and mutual respect.
