The Muharraq Municipal Council’s Services and Utilities Committee, chaired by Abdulqader Al Sayed, recently approved a key proposal to designate the Bu Maher coastline as a public area. This initiative is aimed at enhancing access for both Muharraq residents and the broader community. The committee has directed the development of preliminary designs, the integration of funding into the Ministry’s coastal development plan, and a subsequent review of these designs by the relevant district member and the committee.

In addition to the Bu Maher coastline designation, several other proposals aimed at enhancing local infrastructure were reviewed by the committee. One key recommendation discussed was the improvement of access to Block 103 in Al Hidd by creating a new entrance and exit on Hatim Al Taie Avenue to enhance driver visibility. The committee also proposed connecting Road 909 in Block 109, Al Hidd, to the main water network to address persistent waterlogging issues caused by the absence of underground reservoirs.

The committee also requested an update from the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture regarding the progress of the Al Dair and Samaheej coastline development. This was in response to a January 2023 ministerial update regarding feasibility studies and investment opportunities, highlighting the importance of maintaining public access. Discussions also focused on modifying entrances and exits on Road 46 in Arad to improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.

Furthermore, the establishment of a new access point behind the International School of Choueifat to the Al Shurooq project in Block 254, Qalali, was proposed as a measure to alleviate traffic congestion. The importance of these proposed infrastructure improvements is to not only enhance accessibility and visibility but also to address persistent issues such as waterlogging and traffic congestion in various areas of Muharraq.

Overall, the Muharraq Municipal Council’s Services and Utilities Committee is focused on enhancing the overall infrastructure and accessibility of Muharraq for its residents and the broader community. By approving key proposals such as designating the Bu Maher coastline as a public area and addressing issues such as waterlogging and traffic congestion, the committee is working towards creating a more efficient and accessible environment for all. It is important to continue monitoring the progress of these proposals and ensuring they are implemented effectively to benefit the community as a whole.
