Ministry of Justice releases official publication documenting proposed amendments

The exclusive edition of the Ministry of Justice’s official gazette in Doha reviewed the decrees and decisions related to the upcoming referendum on draft constitutional amendments in Qatar. The edition included the full text of the draft amendments, as well as lists of the paper and electronic referendum committees, and the names of the committee members.

Numbered 16 for 2024, the gazette featured the Decree No. (87) of 2024 calling on citizens to participate in the referendum, along with the draft constitutional amendments for 2024 and Decision No. (1) of 2024 appointing the Chairperson and members of the General Referendum Committee. Additionally, Decision No. (2) of 2024 established the Executive Committee for organizing the referendum, along with its subcommittees and tasks.

Furthermore, Decision No. (3) of 2024 formed the referendum committees for the constitutional amendments, specifying their tasks and procedures, while Decision No. (4) of 2024 regulated the rules and procedures for conducting the referendum remotely. The Ministry of Justice highlighted the importance of this edition in documenting the legislative measures taken for the referendum, serving as a reference for legal professionals and practitioners.

The Ministry stated that the edition aims to commemorate a landmark event in the nation’s history, showcasing solidarity between the people of Qatar and their leadership. The referendum, at the invitation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, holds great significance in prioritizing constitutional values and principles within the legal and constitutional framework.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Justice emphasized the successful experience of organizing the referendum in record time, with the participation of the people of Qatar demonstrating their support for the constitutional amendments. The edition of the official gazette serves as a comprehensive guide to the legislative and constitutional processes undertaken for the referendum, ensuring transparency and clarity for all stakeholders involved.
