The world was saddened to hear about the passing of British actress Maggie Smith at the age of 89. King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed their heartfelt condolences, acknowledging the loss of a beloved figure in the arts. In a tribute post, King Charles highlighted Smith’s significant contributions to the entertainment industry, describing her as a “national treasure” whose talents will be deeply missed. He fondly remembered meeting Dame Maggie at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2016 when he was still Prince Charles.

Following the news of Smith’s death, tributes poured in from fans and colleagues, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer praising her as a “true national treasure.” Hollywood stars and admirers also celebrated her remarkable career and enduring charm. Daniel Radcliffe, who worked closely with Smith in the Harry Potter films, shared a touching memory of their first meeting, highlighting her fierce intellect and sharp wit.

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, took to Instagram to remember Smith’s warmth and influence on set. Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy, thanked Smith for her guidance and support on the Harry Potter set. Beyond the Harry Potter family, Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Sir Michael Caine reflected on the joy of working with the talented actress.

Maggie Smith, born on December 28, 1934, began her acting career in Oxford at a young age. Her big break came in 1956 with New Faces on Broadway, followed by acclaimed roles in movies, on stage, and on television. Critic Irving Wardle praised her versatility, from a wide smile to a venomous glare, which she utilized in her role in Downton Abbey. Despite her success, Smith longed for a private life away from the spotlight.

Over her career, Smith received four Oscar nominations for her outstanding performances in films like Travels With My Aunt, Othello, A Room With a View, and Gosford Park. Her legacy as a talented and versatile actress will be remembered for years to come. The world mourns the loss of this legendary actress, whose impact on the entertainment industry and fans around the globe will never be forgotten.
