Khareef Festival Anticipated to Draw More Than 1 Million Visitors

The Khareef Dhofar 2024 season is expected to attract over one million visitors, indicating the region’s rise as a top tourist destination. The festivities, beginning on June 21 and lasting three months, are set to offer a wide range of attractions and activities for visitors. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsin Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, emphasized the early preparations made in collaboration with government departments and private sector establishments to enhance tourism sites and provide a unique experience for all visitors. Key attractions this year include Awqad Public Park and Ateen Plain in Salalah, with Ateen Square set to open soon, offering international activities to entertain visitors.

Exciting sites like ‘The Return of the Past Site’ will showcase the diverse environments of Dhofar Governorate and other parts of Oman. The enhancement of displays featuring products by Omani youth, along with the design of 200 kiosks for restaurants and cafes, will add to the visitor experience. Last year, significant projects were launched with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Omran Group, including the development of scenic viewpoints in various locations. This year, new tourism projects have been completed in the Wilayat of Rakhyut and at Al Damar beach in the Wilayat of Mirbat, further enhancing the region’s appeal.

With a growing number of visitors each year, the economic impact of the Khareef Dhofar season is significant, with an anticipated expenditure exceeding OMR 100 million this year. The surge in popularity of the event is evident from the increase in visitors over the past years, reaching 962,000 in 2023. This year’s expected influx of over one million tourists highlights the region’s appeal and economic potential. As the season unfolds, Dhofar is prepared to welcome visitors from around the world, offering a mix of cultural, recreational, and entrepreneurial activities against the backdrop of its stunning natural beauty.
