Kolkata Knight Riders dominated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL qualifier 1 to secure a spot in the final. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc played a crucial role by taking three early wickets to restrict Hyderabad to 159. Starc, who was the most expensive buy in the IPL auction, justified his price tag with an impressive performance. Kolkata comfortably chased down the target with Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Shreyas Iyer leading the charge. Hyderabad will have another chance in the second qualifier to make it to the final. The match was played in scorching heat in Ahmedabad, with the stadium witnessing a significant number of empty seats.

Starc’s early breakthroughs set the tone for Kolkata’s bowling as Hyderabad lost early wickets. Despite a brief partnership between Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen, Kolkata bowlers continued to take wickets at regular intervals. Shreyas praised the bowling unit for their efforts in restricting Hyderabad to a manageable total. In reply, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine provided a solid start for Kolkata before Venkatesh and Shreyas guided them to victory. Kolkata will now face the winner of the eliminator in the final.

The match was played in extreme heat conditions, with temperatures soaring above 44 degrees Celsius. The stadium officials confirmed that over 75,000 fans attended the game, despite the scorching heat. Both teams struggled with the conditions, with players taking regular drinks breaks to stay hydrated. Starc’s impactful performance with the ball earned him the player of the match award, showcasing his value to the Kolkata team.

Kolkata showcased a balanced performance in both bowling and batting departments, with every player contributing to the team’s success. The win marked Kolkata’s fourth appearance in the IPL final, highlighting their consistency and ability to perform under pressure. Hyderabad, on the other hand, will look to bounce back in the second qualifier and earn a spot in the final. With the tournament heading towards its climax, the competition is expected to intensify as teams vie for the coveted title.

As the IPL playoffs progress, the excitement among fans continues to build, with teams giving their all to secure a spot in the final. The upcoming matches promise to be thrilling as teams compete for glory and the chance to lift the IPL trophy. With star players like Starc, Cummins, and Tripathi showcasing their skills on the field, the competition is expected to reach new heights. The focus now shifts to the eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as they battle it out for a chance to face Kolkata in the final.
