India’s Vinesh Phogat Denied Silver Medal at Paris Olympics by CAS After Dismissing Plea – News

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ad hoc division dismissed Vinesh Phogat’s application for a silver medal in the women’s 50kg event at the Paris Olympics. Last week, Phogat was disqualified before the final for exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams. She was set to face Sarah Ann Hildebrandt for the gold medal. Following her disqualification, Phogat requested CAS to award her the silver medal. The verdict was scheduled for August 13 but was delayed to August 16. CAS had previously extended the deadline to give a decision by August 13. Phogat had reached the gold medal match by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semifinals.
