In 2023, Masdar, a leading clean energy company, announced significant growth in its clean energy portfolio, totaling 31.5GW, with over 26,700GWh of clean energy generated and 14 million tonnes of CO2e avoided. This increase in clean energy capacity has had a substantial global sustainability impact, equivalent to removing almost 870,000 cars from the road. Masdar’s annual Sustainability Report highlighted its plans for growth through a $3 billion green bond offering at the London Stock Exchange to attract investments in renewable energy projects worldwide.

Throughout 2023, Masdar initiated significant projects that further increased its global sustainability impact, with milestone projects completed in various markets such as Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Azerbaijan. Notable projects included the inauguration of the Al Dhafra Solar PV, the world’s largest single-site solar power plant in the UAE, and the addition of the country’s first wind project to the national power grid. Additionally, the 145MW Cirata plant in Southeast Asia, the largest floating solar plant in the region, came online, showcasing Masdar’s commitment to expanding its clean energy capacity.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, emphasized the company’s unprecedented growth in 2023, with a more than fifty percent increase in global clean energy capacity. Masdar’s commitment to strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices was highlighted through its industry-leading green bonds initiative and the achievement of a high ESG rating from Sustainable Fitch. The company’s focus on environmental advancements led to the first EMEA corporate to receive the Sustainability PurePlayer Label for its dedication to clean energy solutions.

Masdar’s 2023 Sustainability Report showcased the company’s achievements under a new shareholding structure, bringing together UAE energy giants Taqa, Adnoc, and Mubadala. The report demonstrated Masdar’s role as a key enabler of the UAE’s energy transition, supporting the country’s commitment to climate action. Masdar’s milestones align with the UAE Consensus reached at COP28, aiming to triple global renewable energy capacity. With projects developed and partnered in over 40 countries across six continents, Masdar aims to increase its renewable energy portfolio capacity to 100GW by 2030, further solidifying its position as a global leader in clean energy.

In conclusion, Masdar’s 2023 Sustainability Report highlights the company’s significant growth in its clean energy portfolio, reflecting its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and global energy transition. With a focus on expanding its clean energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions, Masdar’s initiatives contribute to the UAE’s leadership in climate action and renewable energy solutions. Through strategic partnerships and innovative projects, Masdar continues to play a vital role in advancing clean energy technologies and driving global sustainability efforts.
