Creating the right environment and providing training for Emiratis is a crucial responsibility for private sector companies in the UAE, as highlighted by Ahmad Yousuf Al Nasser, assistant undersecretary of National Human Resources Development at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. In an interview with Khaleej Times, Al Nasser emphasized the partnership between the government and private sector in achieving Emiratisation targets. The launch of ‘Making Emiratisation a Success Guide for 2024’ by MoHRE and TASC aims to provide companies with guidelines and support to enhance their Emiratisation efforts.

All companies in the UAE with 50 skilled employees are required to increase the percentage of Emirati workforce by two percent annually, reaching a minimum of 10 percent by 2026. Additionally, companies are mandated to achieve one percent Emiratisation every six months, showcasing the government’s commitment to supporting Emiratisation initiatives. Al Nasser acknowledged the challenges faced by companies in meeting these targets, but reiterated that Emiratisation is a shared responsibility that requires strategic planning and consistent efforts from the private sector.

One of the main challenges identified by firms in Emiratisation efforts is the mismatch between job requirements and the skills of Emirati graduates. Al Nasser emphasized the role of private sector companies in nurturing Emirati talent from the early stages of employment and providing opportunities for skills development. Establishing the right environment within companies, including internal policies, career progression opportunities, and job flexibility, is essential for Emiratis to thrive and contribute effectively to the workforce.

Emiratis are increasingly joining diverse sectors such as finance, construction, and retail, showcasing their talent and capabilities. The government prioritizes sectors like education and healthcare for Emiratisation efforts, recognizing the importance of these industries in national development. Al Nasser highlighted that meeting targets for firms is not a significant challenge, as the requirement for skilled labor is minimal compared to other markets, making it feasible for companies to integrate Emiratis into their workforce.

In conclusion, Emiratisation is a national obligation that requires collaborative efforts from the government and private sector to create opportunities for Emiratis to excel in the workforce. By investing in training, creating the right environment, and aligning job requirements with the skills of Emirati talent, companies can contribute to the success of Emiratisation initiatives and the development of a diverse and skilled workforce in the UAE. Embracing Emiratisation as a shared responsibility will benefit both companies and the nation as a whole, fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
