The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has announced the implementation of the Wage Protection Service for domestic workers through the Musaned platform. This service will be implemented in phases, starting from July 1, 2024, for new contracts and gradually extended to existing house workers. By January 1, 2026, all categories of domestic workers will come under this service. The initiative aims to ensure transparency in salary payments and facilitate the process through digital wallets and approved banks on the Musaned platform, enhancing security and reliability in wage transfers and preserving the rights of both employers and domestic workers.

Employers with more than four domestic workers will be required to use the new service starting from January 1, 2025. Employers with three or more workers will need to implement the service by July 1, 2025, while those with two or more workers will have to comply by October 1, 2025. The Wage Protection Service has been available on the Musaned platform since April 1, 2022, and has received positive feedback from customers and stakeholders involved in the contractual relationship. The service not only benefits employers by strengthening salary verification processes for domestic workers but also simplifies procedures related to ending the worker’s contract or their travel. Additionally, it ensures protection for both employers and workers in case of disputes.

By enforcing the Wage Protection Service, the MHRSD is taking significant steps to develop the domestic workers sector and uphold the rights of all parties involved. The initiative aligns with the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the overall welfare and working conditions for domestic workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The use of digital wallets and approved banks for salary payments not only offers convenience and security but also fosters a more efficient and transparent system for managing domestic workers’ wages. This move reflects the government’s dedication to promoting fair labor practices and safeguarding the rights of domestic workers in the country.

The introduction of the Wage Protection Service through the Musaned platform marks a crucial milestone in the effort to modernize and regulate the domestic workers sector in Saudi Arabia. By standardizing salary payments and ensuring compliance with labor laws, the service aims to create a more equitable and accountable environment for both employers and domestic workers. The system’s gradual implementation approach allows for a smooth transition and ensures that all employers will eventually be required to use the service, further strengthening accountability and transparency in wage payments within the domestic workers sector.

Overall, the implementation of the Wage Protection Service for domestic workers is a significant step towards enhancing the standards of the domestic workers sector in Saudi Arabia. By promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in salary payments, the service contributes to creating a fair and secure working environment for both employers and domestic workers. As the initiative continues to roll out in phases, it is expected to lead to a more streamlined and regulated system that prioritizes the rights and well-being of all individuals involved in the domestic workers sector. Through the use of digital technology and official channels, the Wage Protection Service aims to foster a culture of compliance, fairness, and respect within the domestic workers sector, ultimately benefiting both employers and workers alike.
