An Indian national, Sunil, who overstayed his visit visa in the UAE and lost his vision in one eye, was recently flown home with the help of the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Sunil, originally from Kerala, arrived in the UAE in 2022 in search of job opportunities but was unable to find one. He ended up overstaying his visa and also suffered from glaucoma, a disease that damaged his optic nerve. As a result, he lost vision in one eye and was losing vision in the other.

With his condition worsening, Sunil sought assistance from the Indian Embassy officials, who promptly took action. The officials provided him with an air ticket and exit permits to facilitate his repatriation to Kerala. Sunil expressed his gratitude towards the embassy officials for their support. A spokesperson from the embassy confirmed that they completed the necessary paperwork and formalities for Sunil’s repatriation.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has urged expats to strictly adhere to the UAE’s rules and regulations to avoid facing similar situations. They emphasized the importance of reviewing the terms and validity of visas and following the guidelines set by the authorities. The embassy reiterated its commitment to the welfare and assistance of all Indians in the UAE. Sunil’s case serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by individuals who overstay their visas and the importance of seeking timely assistance from the relevant authorities.

Sunil’s story highlights the significance of diplomatic support and assistance provided by Indian embassies to nationals facing difficulties abroad. The role of embassies in facilitating the repatriation of stranded citizens showcases the commitment of governments to ensuring the well-being of their citizens overseas. Sunil’s successful return to Kerala is a testament to the effective coordination between the individual, the embassy officials, and the relevant authorities in resolving such complex situations.

Overstaying visas and facing medical emergencies while abroad can lead to severe consequences, as seen in Sunil’s case. It is essential for individuals to be mindful of visa regulations and take necessary precautions to prevent such issues. Seeking timely assistance from embassy officials in challenging situations can make a significant difference in ensuring a safe return home. Sunil’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of compliance with visa regulations and the role of diplomatic missions in providing support to nationals in distress.
