Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company have recently signed an agreement to kick-start the construction of the Omani-Emirati railway network project. The signing took place during the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the UAE, with Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, present at the event. The joint venture, formerly known as Oman-Etihad Rail Company, will now be named Hafeet Rail in honor of Jebel Hafeet, a mountain range that connects Oman and the UAE through its rugged terrain.

The construction of the railway network, which requires a total investment of US$3 billion, aims to boost the UAE and Oman as gateways to regional markets and create job opportunities in various sectors in both countries. The network will facilitate cross-border trade by connecting commercial ports to railways within the two nations, enabling a single freight train to transport more than 15,000 tonnes of cargo or around 270 standard containers. Hafeet Rail is expected to contribute to the development of sectors such as mining, iron and steel, agriculture, food, retail, e-commerce, and petrochemicals.

In addition to the economic benefits, the passenger rail services provided by Hafeet Rail will play a key role in connecting population centers, promoting social cohesion, and supporting the tourism sector. With passenger trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, the journey between Sohar and Abu Dhabi can be completed in 100 minutes, while the distance between Sohar and Al Ain can be covered in just 47 minutes. Each train has a capacity of accommodating up to 400 passengers, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for individuals traveling between the two countries.

The strategic significance of Jebel Hafeet lies in its historical importance and unique geographical features, including mountains, deserts, and limestone formations. The mountain range acts as a natural link between Oman and the UAE, creating opportunities for trade and transportation through the implementation of the railway network. The partnership between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their infrastructure and promote economic growth through collaborative efforts.

As the construction of the Omani-Emirati railway network progresses, it is essential to stay informed about the latest developments and updates regarding this transformative project. By following KT on WhatsApp Channels, you can ensure that you are up to date with the most recent news and announcements related to the railway network construction and its impact on the UAE and Oman. The completion of the Hafeet Rail project is poised to revolutionize transportation and connectivity between the two neighboring countries, fostering economic growth and enhancing trade opportunities in the region.

In conclusion, the agreement signed between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company marks a significant milestone in the development of the Omani-Emirati railway network project. The establishment of Hafeet Rail symbolizes the joint efforts of both nations to improve connectivity, promote economic development, and create job opportunities in various sectors. With a focus on enhancing trade, facilitating cross-border transportation, and supporting passenger services, the railway network is set to transform the infrastructure landscape of the UAE and Oman, paving the way for a more integrated and prosperous future for both nations.
