The Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi, announced that over 11,171 jobs have been created in the field of occupational safety and health in the past three years. Speaking at the Global Conference for Occupational Safety and Health in Riyadh, he outlined the ministry’s goal to increase the number of specialists in this field from 23,971 to 45,800 by 2025. The conference, themed “Scanning the Horizon,” covers topics such as sustainability, corporate safety, technological transformation, cultural awareness, and occupational health.

Al-Rajhi highlighted the significant progress made by Saudi Arabia in the occupational safety and health sector, attributing it to the initiatives launched in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. He emphasized the importance of strengthening and developing the OSH sector to protect workers in various workplaces and align with international standards. The minister praised the efforts of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) and the collaborative contributions of various sectors to achieve a 30.7% decrease in work-related injuries and an increase in establishments adhering to OSH standards to 71.27%.

The implementation of key legislative measures, such as administrative regulations and a comprehensive national policy in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), has been crucial in raising awareness about OSH issues. These measures have led to tangible outcomes and improved monitoring and follow-up on implementation. Eng. Al-Rajhi also inaugurated an exhibition at the conference showcasing the efforts of various partners and sponsors, including the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) and Saudi Aramco. He launched the official website of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, an e-training platform for OSH, and a platform for reporting work-related accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases.

The conference aims to enhance occupational safety and health practices in Saudi Arabia by bringing together senior officials, regional and global specialists, and experts in the field. Through discussions on sustainability, corporate safety, technological advancements, cultural awareness, and occupational health, participants will exchange knowledge and best practices to create a safer work environment for all. The commitment of the ministry and NCOSH to further develop the OSH sector will contribute to the overall well-being and productivity of workers in the Kingdom.

By setting ambitious targets for the number of specialists in OSH and implementing initiatives in line with international standards, Saudi Arabia is strengthening its commitment to worker safety. The successful reduction in work-related injuries and increase in establishments following OSH standards are testament to the effectiveness of the national policy and legislative measures put in place. With ongoing efforts to raise awareness, improve monitoring, and collaborate with stakeholders, the Kingdom is on track to achieve its goals of creating a vibrant society and sustainable economy.
