The State of Qatar is emphasizing the need for the establishment of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian State on the borders of June 4, 1967. In a speech at the World Health Assembly, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah, highlighted the deteriorating health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories due to Israeli occupation authorities’ policies. These include attacks on Palestinians, targeting of health facilities, discriminatory restrictions on health services, and more. The situation in the Gaza Strip, under siege since 2006 and facing brutal aggression, has reached catastrophic levels with thousands killed and injured.
Despite international condemnations, Israel continues to commit grave violations of human rights in Gaza, including depriving Palestinians of essential resources like water, food, and medicine. The health care infrastructure has been severely damaged, with hospitals out of service and medical personnel killed. The State of Qatar has been actively supporting the Palestinian people, particularly in the health sector. Qatar has provided humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies, and a field hospital, through an air bridge operation.
Qatar’s mediation efforts have facilitated agreements to deliver medicines and aid to civilians in Gaza in exchange for supplies needed by Israeli detainees in the Strip. Additionally, Qatar has collaborated with Turkey to reunite wounded Palestinians receiving treatment in Turkey with their families in Doha. Qatar urges the international community to take urgent measures to stop the aggression in Gaza, protect Palestinians’ rights, and ensure access to medical services and humanitarian aid. Qatar reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and will continue to provide assistance, especially in the health sector.
