The State of Qatar recently participated in the high-level ministerial session of the Digital for Sustainable Development (D4SD) Initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Minister of Communications and Information Technology H E Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai represented Qatar at the session, emphasising the country’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future. He highlighted the importance of digital technologies in supporting sustainable development in the Arab world and announced a new strategic partnership between Ooredoo and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This partnership aims to develop digital policies that support sustainable development and enhance public digital infrastructure. Minister Al Mannai stressed the significance of collective Arab cooperation in enhancing advanced digital infrastructure to drive economic growth and promote sustainability in the region. Investing in digital infrastructure and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing can open new horizons for economic growth, improve public services, and support sustainability throughout the Arab region.

The Minister also discussed the Digital Agenda 2030, which is part of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. This agenda serves as the driving force behind the country’s efforts to achieve digital inclusion, sustainability, and innovation. Minister Al Mannai highlighted Qatar’s recognition of the vast potential of digital transformation in shaping the future and expressed the nation’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies for sustainable development in the Arab world.

The session focused on promoting digital transformation across the Arab States to achieve sustainable development goals. Minister Al Mannai emphasized the role of digital technologies in shaping the future and announced a strategic partnership between Ooredoo and UNDP. This partnership will focus on knowledge sharing, policy development, and promoting innovation and digital inclusion to support sustainable development. The Minister highlighted the importance of investing in digital infrastructure and emerging technologies to drive economic growth, improve public services, and promote sustainability in the Arab region.
