The Shura Council of Oman will open its second annual sitting of the Tenth Term on 10 November 2024, following the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This is in accordance with Article 41 of the Council of Oman Law. The Secretary General of the Shura Council, Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, highlighted the Council’s commitment to fulfilling national aspirations in Oman. The Council plays a crucial role in promoting the country’s development, implementing Oman Vision 2040, integrating with State institutions, and encouraging community participation in decision-making processes.

The agenda for the first regular session of the second annual sitting will focus on the discussion and endorsement of a draft law on special economic zones and free zones, submitted by the government. The Council members will also review and respond to queries submitted by ministries. Additionally, they will be briefed on the draft State budget for the Fiscal Year 2025, which is currently under review by the Council’s Economic Committee and Financial Committee. Al Nadabi emphasized the Council’s commitment to transparency and communication with the media, announcing a press gathering on 5 November. This meeting will provide media representatives and legislative affairs specialists with insights into the Council’s legislative functions, recent developments, and alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and national laws.

The Shura Council’s efforts align with Oman Vision 2040 and aim to support the country’s comprehensive development. By engaging in the national decision-making process and collaborating with State institutions, the Council plays a crucial role in shaping Oman’s future. The upcoming session will allow Council members to address key legislative matters, including the endorsement of the draft law on special economic zones and free zones. By facilitating discussions on the State budget for 2025 and responding to queries from ministries, the Council will contribute to the country’s economic and financial stability.

In line with the principles of transparency and accountability, the Shura Council is committed to open communication with the media and the public. The planned press gathering on 5 November will provide an opportunity for the Council to share insights into its operations, legislative roles, and recent achievements. By engaging with media representatives and experts in legislative affairs, the Council aims to enhance understanding of its functions and promote informed dialogue on national issues. This proactive approach to communication reflects the Council’s dedication to serving the interests of the Omani people and fostering a transparent and participatory governance system.

As Oman continues to progress towards its long-term development goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040, the Shura Council remains a key player in shaping the country’s future. By endorsing important laws, reviewing State budgets, and engaging with the media, the Council demonstrates its commitment to promoting economic growth, social welfare, and good governance. The upcoming session of the Council promises to be an important milestone in Oman’s legislative process, with discussions on critical issues such as special economic zones and free zones. Through these efforts, the Council reinforces its role as a vital institution in Oman’s democratic system, working towards a prosperous and sustainable future for all citizens.
