SeaOman has recently strengthened its commitment to protecting coral reefs through sustainable tourism by becoming the first digital member of Green Fins in the Sultanate of Oman. Green Fins, established in 2004, is the world’s first independent certification to stop the environmental impact from marine-based tourism. SeaOman already aligns with many of the goals of Green Fins, and with their new member status, the two organizations can work together towards a future where environmentally friendly practices are standard across the marine tourism industry.

Khamis Al Anbouri, Commercial Director at Oman Sail, expressed pride in sharing Oman’s diverse natural environment with global visitors while being considerate of nature. He emphasized the importance of conserving fragile ecosystems like coral reefs, especially in the face of the negative impacts that unmanaged marine tourism activities can have. SeaOman is committed to championing conservation efforts and sharing that message with people in Oman and around the world.

SeaOman is happy to follow the Green Fins code of conduct, as many of the practices align with what they were already doing. Their commitment is underscored by their no-touch policy for marine life, use of reef-friendly sunblock, and participation in conservation projects throughout the year. Joining Green Fins solidifies their dedication to responsible operations and showcases their commitment to sustainability in marine tourism.

The Green Fins Code of Conduct outlines 15 environmental standards for marine tourism operations to adopt. These standards cover best practices both above and below the water, considering the roles of managers, operator staff, and tourists. While designed to protect coral reefs, these standards can be applied to all marine environments, promoting conservation efforts globally.

Coral reefs are incredibly valuable ecosystems, covering only 1% of the seafloor but hosting 25% of all marine life. They provide numerous benefits to the planet, including a diverse ecosystem for marine life, protection against storms, and potential medicinal benefits for various illnesses. By protecting coral reefs through initiatives like Green Fins, we can preserve these valuable ecosystems for future generations.

Green Fins is a proven conservation management approach implemented internationally by The Reef-World Foundation and the UN Environment Programme. It leads to a measurable reduction in the negative environmental impacts associated with marine tourism by promoting sustainable diving and snorkeling practices. By offering environmentally friendly guidelines and practical alternatives to harmful practices, Green Fins empowers marine tourism companies, divers, and coastal communities to protect coral reefs and marine environments.

SeaOman offers a range of recreational and sports services for visitors and enthusiasts, including sailing, diving, water skiing, and boat rentals. Whether beginners or professionals, SeaOman provides opportunities for individuals to explore the underwater world responsibly. Visit their official website to learn more about their services and commitment to sustainable marine tourism.
