ROHM to kick off 2024/25 season with Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera

The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) recently hosted a media briefing to announce the launch of its 2024/25 season with a production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera. The opera, making its Oman debut, will feature the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Beijing performing for the first time in the Sultanate. The production will take place on Thursday, 3 October, and Saturday, 5 October, with leading opera stars making their debut in Muscat, including Elena Stikhina and Piotr Beczała. The Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti, will bring Verdi’s masterpiece to life, exploring themes of love, betrayal, and political intrigue.

In addition to Un Ballo in Maschera, ROHM will also present a special concert titled A Musical Night from China on Friday, 4 October, featuring the Chorus and soloists from NCPA, conducted by LÜ Jia. The season’s broader theme, Timeless Tales and Fabulous Journeys: An Opera Season Beyond Imagination, promises world-class performances with beloved fairytales such as One Thousand and One Nights and Beauty & The Beast on Ice. The new season will also feature initiatives such as the Emerging Talents series and the upcoming Piano Duel, showcasing winners of international competitions and emerging artists.

Director General and Artistic Director of ROHM, Umberto Fanni, expressed pride in opening the season with Un Ballo in Maschera and emphasized the commitment to offering a diverse programme for local and international audiences. The season ahead will include a dynamic blend of opera, jazz, ballet, family shows, concerts, and Arab music performances, catering to a wide range of tastes. ROHM aims to bridge cultures through the arts, welcoming performers and companies from around the world while showcasing Oman’s cultural heritage on the global stage.

The upcoming season promises to be a thrilling experience for both local and international opera enthusiasts, with a lineup of world-class performances and initiatives aimed at showcasing emerging talents and diverse cultural offerings.
