The Sultanate of Oman recently emphasized the importance of establishing a Palestinian state and granting it full membership in the United Nations as a crucial step towards ending conflicts in the Middle East. In a speech delivered at the UN General Assembly’s emergency special session, Oman stressed that the creation of a Palestinian state is not only a strategic necessity but also a global demand supported by the international community. Oman urged the Security Council to reconsider granting the State of Palestine full membership in the UN, stating that rejecting such a request would not serve security and peace in the region or the world at large. The Sultanate also expressed deep concern over the Israeli occupation forces’ actions in the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories, condemning their military escalation and violations against unarmed civilians.

Oman welcomed the recent overwhelming majority vote by UN General Assembly members in support of a resolution on the State of Palestine’s right to obtain full membership in the United Nations, despite being vetoed. The Sultanate echoed statements made by other countries representing various international groups that support the State of Palestine’s legitimate demand for full UN membership. These statements were made by the delegations of the United Arab Emirates, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Republic of Uganda, all of which affirmed the international community’s support for the Palestinian cause. Oman emphasized the need for the Security Council to avoid applying double standards when it comes to the Palestinian issue and highlighted the importance of addressing the ongoing violations and crimes committed by Israeli forces in the region.

The Sultanate of Oman called for a reconsideration of the Security Council’s decision not to grant the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations, citing the damaging impact this could have on the council’s credibility. By denying Palestine full membership, Oman argued, the Security Council would be maintaining a double standard that contradicts the principles of justice and equality upheld by the UN. Oman emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take action to address the ongoing conflict in the region and to support the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and statehood. The Sultanate reiterated its commitment to working towards a peaceful resolution to the Middle East conflicts and urged all parties to engage in dialogue and negotiations to achieve lasting peace and stability.

Oman’s statements at the UN General Assembly underscored the country’s unwavering support for the State of Palestine and its efforts to secure full membership in the United Nations. The Sultanate emphasized that the establishment of a Palestinian state is not only a moral imperative but also a legal right enshrined in international law. Oman called on the international community to uphold its commitment to justice and equality by supporting the Palestinian cause and working towards a just and lasting resolution to the conflict in the region. The Sultanate reaffirmed its belief that the Palestinian people deserve to live in peace and security, free from occupation and oppression, and stressed the importance of collective action to achieve this goal.

In conclusion, Oman’s advocacy for the establishment of a Palestinian state and its quest for full UN membership reflects the country’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and justice in the Middle East. The Sultanate’s calls for international solidarity and support for the Palestinian cause demonstrate its belief in the principles of equality, justice, and self-determination. Oman’s efforts to raise awareness about the ongoing violations and crimes committed against the Palestinian people underscore its commitment to upholding human rights and international law. By urging the Security Council to reconsider its decision and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people, Oman is taking a stand for justice and peace in the region and calling on the international community to do the same.
