The Secretariat General of the Tender Board recently celebrated the graduation of the first batch of engineers from a program called “Imkan” (Empowerment) in Muscat. This program aims to enhance the skills of engineers involved in the implementation of government projects and contracts. Fifty engineers from various government entities participated in the 6-month course, which focuses on creating a professional system of work that adds value locally in the management of government projects. The program also includes clear criteria for evaluating the technical capabilities of organizational segments involved in project management.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Eng. Said Hamoud Al Ma’awali, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. Eng. Badr Salim Al Ma’amari, the Secretary-General of the Tender Board, announced that the second phase of the program will be launched later this year and will accommodate 120 engineers from 13 government departments. The aim of the program is to address various challenges that affect contracts and projects, such as delays, changes to orders, project failures, and lengthy project implementation timelines.

Abdullah Saif Al Hosani, the Talent and Competency Development Adviser at the Secretariat General of the Tender Board, highlighted the importance of the program in overcoming obstacles in project management. He emphasized that the program will equip engineers with the necessary skills to tackle issues such as delays, changes, and project complexities. Furthermore, the program aims to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of government projects, ultimately contributing to the development of the country.

The “Imkan” program is part of ongoing efforts to improve the management of government projects and contracts in Oman. By equipping engineers with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program aims to ensure the successful implementation of projects and the efficient use of resources. The program also emphasizes the importance of local added value in project management, highlighting the significance of utilizing local talent and resources to drive development and growth in the country.

The graduation ceremony marked an important milestone in the development of engineering talent in Oman. By investing in the skills and capabilities of engineers, the government aims to enhance the quality of project management and ensure the successful execution of government projects. The program not only focuses on technical skills but also emphasizes the importance of professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness in project management, setting a high standard for engineers in the country.

Overall, the “Imkan” program represents a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of engineers involved in government projects in Oman. By focusing on skills development, professional standards, and local value creation, the program aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of project management, ultimately contributing to the development and growth of the country. With plans to expand the program in the future, the government is committed to investing in the development of engineering talent to drive progress and innovation in Oman’s infrastructure and construction sector.
