Bahrainis Achieve Historic Feat by Raising Kingdom’s Flag atop Mount Elbrus

Two Bahraini climbers, Mohammed Al-Maamari and Ali Shakeeb, recently made history by successfully raising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s flag atop Mount Elbrus in the Russian Federation. At 5,642 meters, Mount Elbrus is not only the highest peak in Europe and Russia but also ranks as the tenth highest globally. This incredible achievement was organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Bahrain Youth Hostels Association, with support from the Bahrain Fitness Academy.

Reflecting on their experience, Al-Omari shared, “We achieved the desired goal of the adventure by raising the Kingdom’s flag high on the summit of Mount Elbrus. This mountain is among the highest peaks in the world, and the journey was very difficult due to the challenging climatic conditions and low temperatures. However, despite the obstacles, we were able to overcome them and reach our goal.”

Shakeeb, who became the youngest Arab climber to reach the summit, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, stating, “By reaching the summit of Mount Elbrus, I was able to register my name as the youngest Arab climber to achieve this feat. I am proud of this accomplishment and look forward to taking on more challenges and adventures in the future.”

The climbers faced numerous difficulties and challenges during their ascent, including harsh weather conditions, extreme cold, and high altitudes with low oxygen levels. Despite these obstacles, their determination to raise the Bahraini flag and showcase the strength and capabilities of Bahraini youth motivated them to push through and reach the summit. Musab Hamada, their guide, emphasized the importance of physical and mental preparation for such expeditions, highlighting the commitment and high ability of Al-Maamari and Shakeeb to overcome challenges.

Taking on such a monumental challenge required rigorous preparation and training, both physically and mentally. The climbers were well-prepared by their guide, Musab Hamada, before embarking on the arduous journey. Their commitment to the climbing plan and their ability to overcome obstacles and difficulties while ascending to the summit showcased their dedication and determination. This historic achievement not only reflects the climbers’ resilience and perseverance but also highlights the support and encouragement provided by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Bahrain Youth Hostels Association.

The successful ascent of Mount Elbrus and the raising of the Bahraini flag at its summit mark a significant milestone for Bahraini climbers and the country as a whole. This achievement not only demonstrates the skill and determination of Al-Maamari and Shakeeb but also serves as an inspiration to other young Bahrainis to pursue their dreams and overcome challenges. The climbers’ journey to the top of Mount Elbrus serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of Bahraini youth, showcasing their capabilities on a global stage. With this historic feat, Bahrain continues to make its mark in the world of mountaineering and adventure sports, paving the way for future generations of climbers to follow in the footsteps of Al-Maamari and Shakeeb.
