The push for fairer pay for private sector workers in Bahrain is gaining momentum, as MP Jalal Kadhem aims to double the overtime pay for night shifts. Currently, workers receive an additional 25 percent for daytime shifts and 50 percent for night shifts. However, Kadhem’s proposal seeks to raise this to at least 50 percent for daytime and 100 percent for night hours, to ensure that workers are properly compensated for their extended work hours. He argues that the current rates do not adequately reflect the physical and mental toll of longer shifts and believes that this amendment will support workers who go above and beyond their normal working hours.

Kadhem emphasizes the importance of fair treatment and well-being for workers, stating that the proposed increase in overtime pay is meant to show appreciation for the added hours that employees put in. By creating a more balanced workplace, he hopes to boost morale and encourage improved productivity among workers. The proposal aligns with Bahrain’s commitment to promoting equitable treatment in the workplace and fostering positive relationships between employers and employees. If approved by Parliament, the new rates would come into effect soon after being published in the Official Gazette.

The proposal is currently under review by the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee before being forwarded to the government for potential ratification. The goal of the pay rise is to address the imbalance between the demands of work and the compensation received by private sector workers in Bahrain. By providing fair compensation for those who frequently work extra hours, the plan aims to recognize and reward the dedication and effort of employees. This move towards fairer pay for overtime work reflects a broader effort to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees.

With the potential for overtime pay rates to double for night shifts in Bahrain’s private sector, workers may soon see a significant increase in their compensation for putting in extra hours. This move by MP Jalal Kadhem reflects a growing awareness of the importance of fair treatment and adequate reward for employees who go above and beyond in their work. By raising overtime pay rates to better reflect the demands of extended work hours, the proposal aims to support workers’ well-being and ensure that their efforts are recognized and valued. If implemented, these changes could contribute to a more balanced and positive work environment that promotes productivity and job satisfaction among employees.

The proposal for increased overtime pay rates is part of a broader effort to promote fair treatment and equitable dealings in the workplace in Bahrain. By recognizing the contributions of workers who put in extra hours, the plan seeks to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment that values the dedication and effort of all employees. Addressing the imbalance between work demands and compensation is essential for fostering a positive and productive workplace culture. By advocating for fairer pay for overtime work, MP Jalal Kadhem is working towards creating a more balanced and rewarding work environment for private sector workers in Bahrain.
